About "Out of the Blocks":
Aaron Henkin’s documentary series, “Out of the Blocks,” chronicles daily life in Baltimore, one block at a time.
The series airs on Baltimore’s NPR affiliate, WYPR, and is distributed as a podcast by PRX, the Public Radio Exchange.
The premise of each episode is simple: One city block. Everybody’s story.
The result is an immersive listening experience built from a mosaic of voices and soundscapes on the streets of our city.
Out of the Blocks began as a local experiment in storytelling and an excuse to talk to strangers.
It’s since won two regional Edward R Murrow Awards, earned grants from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and National Endowment for the Arts, and been broadcast nationally and internationally.
Aaron started as a volunteer at WYPR in 2001 with no formal training, and he’s learned everything he knows by trial and error. He’s still learning every day.
