The Collective, Baltimore's hub for dancers and choreographers, hosts The Community Project 2019 as an open-call, community-based workshop where participants engage in an creative process led by a professional choreographer from The Collective to prepare for a public performance. Participants of all dance backgrounds and experience levels are encouraged to participate. The project will consist of three rehearsals/workshops in order to learn and develop movement for the final performance as a part of Baltimore Dance Invitational at the Gordon Center for Performing Arts.

This year's Community Project will be offered in two locations: The Bryn Mawr School (Northern Baltimore City) and the Rosenbloom Jewish Community Center (Owings Mills). The projects will be co-facilitated by Sonia Synkowski, Co-Director of The Collective and Lynne Price, Choreographer/Dancer with The Collective. Lynne and Sonia will work collaboratively with the dancers to build a piece and embrace community practices through the crafting of movement material with and for the participants. Lynne will be the choreographer at the Bryn Mawr School location and work primarily through dance theater and post-modern dance lenses; Sonia will be the choreographer at the Owings Mills JCC location and work primarily utilizing the modern dance and post-modern dance tradition.
