Running from Thanksgiving (11/28/19) through Christmas Eve (12/24/19), Christmas Village in Baltimore will once again bring the charm of an authentic German Christmas market to the Inner Harbor. The season 2019 will start with a preview weekend on Nov 23th and 24th, to give everybody a sneak peek of the new vendors and attractions! The event will be officially opened by the original Christkind from Nuremberg/ Germany on Saturday, 10/30/19.

WHAT IS CHRISTMAS VILLAGE?

Christmas Village in Baltimore is a combination of an outdoor and indoor Holiday Market at West Shore Park in the Inner Harbor. The event is modeled after the traditional Christmas Markets in Germany like the famous Christkindl Market in Nuremberg.

From Thanksgiving through Christmas Eve, vendors in more than 50 booths will sell traditional European food, sweets and drinks. You will also find great shopping opportunities with a large variety of international holiday gifts, ornaments, jewelry as well as high-quality arts and crafts.

The outdoor area around the Walter Sondheim Fountain and along the Inner Harbor Promenade will bring the original Christmas Village charm with its traditional German style wooden huts to Baltimore. In addition a heated festival tent (60' x 180') will create a Christmassy shopping atmosphere with more vendors, a food court and an event space.

The unique atmosphere with thousands of lights, the big Holiday Tree, the delicious smell of waffles, gingerbread, bratwurst and mulled wine gets you and your family into the perfect Christmas spirit.

HISTORY OF CHRISTMAS MARKETS

The History of Christmas markets in Germany roots back to the late Middle Ages. One of the oldest and most famous ones is held every year in Nuremberg in the state of Bavaria. The tradition of these markets has been passed down from generation to generation. In the mid 16th century Nuremberg farmers started to sell their crops on farmers market during Advent time. Eventually the world known Nuremberg Christkindlsmarket emerged. Check out the website to learn more about its history, events and the city of Nuremberg!
