Every spring, the Congressional Institute sponsors the Congressional Art Competition, a nationwide contest for visual artists in high school. The competition recognizes the inspiring work of young artists from each Congressional District and showcases the creativity of our nation’s future artists. Since the competition began in 1982, more than 650,000 high school students have participated.

If you are a high school student residing in Maryland's Third District who would like to participate in the annual Congressional Art Competition, please let us know. If you’re not sure if you live in the Third District, visit http://www.house.gov/representatives/find/ or call Congressman Sarbanes' Office at (410) 832-8890 and provide your street address and zip code to a staff member who will be able to help you.

Students must submit artwork through their high school. Please let your teachers know as soon as possible if you want to be considered for the competition.

The deadline for submitting Third District artwork to the Congressional Art Competition from schools at the Towson office is early April. Artwork must be delivered to the Congressman’s Towson office: 600 Baltimore Avenue, Suite 303, Towson, MD 21204.

Winning pieces from each of the 435 Congressional districts will be displayed in the underground tunnel leading from the Cannon House Office Building to the U.S. Capitol building in Washington D.C. for a period of one year. There will be an official reception at the U.S. Capitol in late June for all first-place winners. Second- and third-place artwork for the Third District will be displayed in Congressman Sarbanes' Washington D.C. and District offices, respectively, for one year. All art work will be returned to students at the end of the year.

Please don’t hesitate to contact Congressman Sarbanes' office if you would like to discuss the event, have any questions or need assistance.
