Hello Highlandtown Neighbors,

My name is Adi, I am a library assistant at the Southeast Anchor Branch of the Pratt Library.

I'm writing to let you know that this spring we, along with several other branches of EPFL, will be hosting a reading as part of the Favorite Poem Project, a national poetry initiative.  Robert Pinsky, the 39th Poet Laureate of the United States, founded the Favorite Poem Project shortly after the Library of Congress appointed him to the post in 1997.

As the neighborhood's community hub, we wanted to ask if you could help spread the word through your channels to anyone interested in reading their favorite poem to the public at an event in the library on April 13th. Of course, we'd love to have the board members participate as well!

We are hoping to get a cross section of our community with about 7-10 readers, so spots are limited.

The rules are:

·  Poems recited are NOT poems the readers or their friends or relatives have written, but ones they have read, perhaps many times, and to which they feel a personal attachment.

·  The reading is limited to no more than 5 minutes.

·  The reader would give a brief introduction, no more than a minute or two, giving the title of the poem, the poet's name, and why they chose that particular poem.  For instance on the website: www.favoritepoem.org, one of the readers was a little league baseball player who read "Casey at the Bat". You can view a video of his reading and others on the web site.

If you're interested and have any questions, please reach out to me at: adesai@prattlibrary.org
